PCP on DVD - Chronicle

Some of the found footage movies are done better than others.  Chronicle is one of those movies.

Chronicle - 2012, rated PG-13.  My rating:  8 out of 10.

Chronicle is sort of like a comic book movie, in the sense that 3 teenage boys develop mutant powers after an unexplainable incident.  Where it departs from superhero films is that the film is shot in a "found footage" style, and also none of the characters is particularly heroic until forced to become so.  In fact, the film is more of a study of what would happen if 3 teenage boys developed incredible powers, but didn't have anything to limit their behavior.  Also, one of the characters is a little unstable to begin with, thanks to his upbringing and social outcast standing within his high school.  Chronicle follows the characters as they come to grips with their new abilities, and the bad things that can happen if a person with the wrong personality becomes a powerful telekinetic.

I don't want to say too much more on the movie because I don't want to spoil anything, it is a good story told rather well.  It's definitely worth checking out and I highly recommend it. Also, unlike many found footage films, the footage gets more and more stable as the film wears on, explained in the plot as the characters using their telekinesis to stabilize the cameras, so at least it isn't as nauseating as some films (Blair Witch Project I'm looking at you).  Definitely go check this one out!
